Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has conducted a comprehensive inspection of the red line rail project.
The red line project, initiated and overseen by the Sanwo-Olu administration, is executed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), connecting Agbado to Oyingbo.
The inspection tour commenced with a visit to Agbado, where the governor assessed the progress of the rail terminal situated close to the Lateef Jakande Station, operated by the Nigerian Railways Corporation (NRC).
Throughout the tour, Governor Sanwo-Olu closely examined the condition of the stations and their platforms. Despite the advanced stage of the red line infrastructure, there were notable areas demanding attention, particularly the removal of illegal activities along the rail corridor, a situation the governor emphasised should never have occurred.
The inspection also highlighted the necessity for the completion of pedestrian bridges along the route.
Expressing his satisfaction with the work accomplished by the project’s contractors, Governor Sanwo-Olu affirmed his commitment to meeting the project’s deadline, which is set for the end of the current year.
He pledged to push contractors to maintain an unwavering work pace and assured the public of stringent measures to evict intruders from the rail corridor.
An evacuation notice has already been issued to traders operating within the corridor. The governor further announced plans to enclose the entire corridor, ensuring unobstructed passenger movement when the rail service commences.
Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the community’s eagerness for the project’s completion and its subsequent inauguration but underscored the paramount importance of safety measures.
He stressed that every precautionary measure must be meticulously implemented before the Red Line’s official launch, prioritising the well-being of passengers and the project’s long-term success.
