Sunday Dosunmu, a 53-year-old man, known for his involvement in car theft activities, has been once again taken into custody.
This incident took place in the Eleme region of Ogun State on the evening of August 12, 2023.
Dosunmu had previously been detained by Divisional Police Officer CSP Adeniyi Adekunle of Kemta Division on September 17, 2022, following an attempted car theft in Olorunsogo, Ogun State.
After being apprehended in 2022, Dosunmu was released, only to resume his criminal activities.
This time, he was caught by vigilant youths in the Eleme area while using counterfeit master keys to gain unauthorized access to parked vehicles.
His actions prompted swift alarm and a subsequent chase, although a person of his age was unable to elude his pursuers.
The local youths successfully apprehended Dosunmu before contacting law enforcement authorities.
Upon his arrest, it was discovered that Dosunmu was in possession of two fabricated iron master keys, evidently employed as tools to unlock vehicles belonging to unsuspecting owners.
Once inside the vehicles, he would abscond with them.
While the legal principle of double jeopardy may not apply without a previous acquittal following a comprehensive investigation, Dosunmu’s recurrent involvement in criminal activities demonstrates a lack of remorse.
Despite his age, authorities are committed to pursuing legal action against him.
The commissioner of police has been fully briefed on the situation and has mandated that substantial evidence be presented in court to ensure that Sunday Dosunmu faces the consequences of his actions and learns from them.
