Niyiseun Oluwadare, a commercial motorcyclist commonly known as an “okada rider,” recently received a payment of N20,000 following a robbery he was involved in with two others, resulting in the seizure of N1.2 million.
The robbery occurred while he was transporting a businesswoman, whom he had been providing transportation services to for more than a year, to the market.
After his accomplices failed to remit his agreed-upon share of the stolen funds, Oluwadare reported the incident to the Ondo State Police Command, which led to his apprehension and subsequent parade by the police in Akure.
The 35-year-old father of three admitted to planning the robbery with one of his associates, who issued tickets along Idanre Road.
During his confession to Vanguard News, he revealed that “the attack was aimed at the businesswoman,” who he knew often carried substantial amounts of money.
In addition to transporting her to the market regularly, she would entrust him with money to purchase items on her behalf.
Oluwadare stated that on the day of the robbery, they executed the plan with three individuals, but one of them managed to escape.
He received a meager sum of N20,000 from the stolen funds and has since been demanding the outstanding balance of N380,000 from his accomplices, who have yet to fulfill their promise.
Despite receiving the payment while in the presence of the police, Oluwadare remains determined to retrieve the remaining owed amount, providing further insight into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He said, “l reported my accomplices to the Police when they failed to pay the balance N380,000 into my account.”
“I have been taking the woman to the market every five days and I knew she has huge amount of money.
“Sometimes, when she does not have time to go, she would call on me and give me money to get the items for her.
“She gives me N1 million to take to the market for her.
“On that fateful day, I planned with one of the boys that issues tickets along Idanre Road to carry out an attack on the woman, so as to collect the N1.2 million.
“We were three in number, but the third person ran away.
“I was given only N20,000. I asked for the balance and they are yet to pay it.
“He gave me the money while I was with the police.
“It is remaining N380,000.”
