The Nasarawa State government has established 36 mobile courts across its local government and council development areas to prosecute individuals who violate the monthly sanitation law.
According to Abubakar Mohammed, the chief environment officer and chief prosecutor at the Nasarawa State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the courts will ensure effective enforcement of the law.
He also mentioned that Lafia and Karu council areas each have three mobile courts for administrative convenience.
During a recent sanitation exercise in July, up to 90% of residents complied with the law by cleaning their surroundings, while essential service workers were allowed to move around.
Forty-two individuals were also arrested and prosecuted by the mobile courts in Lafia Local Government Area for violating the sanitation law.
