The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has emphasised the importance of professionalism among legal practitioners to ensure impartial dispensation of justice and restore confidence in the judiciary.
This message was conveyed during the 3rd General Sam Momah Annual Lecture Series, held in Abuja, where the theme “Temple of Justice in Nigeria, scarred or sacred” sparked discussions about the nation’s judiciary.
President’s Call for Ethical Conduct:
During the event, NBA President Chief Yakubu Maikyau urged legal professionals to uphold ethical standards in their practice, emphasising that the nation’s well-being is closely tied to the judiciary’s ability to administer justice without bias.
Keynote Speaker’s Insights
Mrs. Ayo Obe, former president of the Civil Liberties Organisation and the keynote speaker at the lecture, highlighted four essential principles for a just society: accountability, open government, accessible justice, and impartiality.
She advised lawyers to embrace these principles in their pursuit of justice.

The Sam Momah Foundation, established in 2018, seeks to rekindle a passion for reading, especially among students, by providing modern facilities to educational institutions and libraries across the country.

With the nation anticipating the outcome of the Election Petitions Tribunal, Dr. Tobe Momah, a Social Analyst and Executive Director of the foundation, stressed the significance of the theme, given the current situation in the country. Dr. Momah also called on the federal government to allocate resources from the fuel subsidy removal to meaningful development ventures for the country.
