In a shocking and tragic incident, a 15-year-old boy from Mwenezi fatally stabbed another boy over a dispute concerning a girlfriend.
The incident, which occurred on July 18, 2023, near Masongwe Secondary School, has prompted a murder investigation by the local authorities.
According to the police report, the male juvenile attacked his age-mate with a kitchen knife, targeting the shoulder and head during an argument related to the suspect’s girlfriend.
“Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries on the spot,” reports say.
Regrettably, such incidents appear to be on the rise among teenagers in various parts of the country, where disputes over romantic relationships are leading to extreme and violent outcomes.
This disturbing trend was evident in previous cases, including one where a 16-year-old girl from Harare was arrested for fatally stabbing a 35-year-old man during a quarrel at a shebeen in Harare’s Hatcliffe suburb.
Similarly, in Nkayi district’s Ngwaladi area in Matabeleland North, a 15-year-old schoolgirl lost her life after being stabbed by a 16-year-old rival during a heated altercation over a boyfriend.
In another incident in Fort Rixon, a 19-year-old teenager named Mthokozisi Sibanda was tragically stabbed to death by a 17-year-old juvenile, reportedly due to a dispute over a 15-year-old girlfriend.
Authorities and communities are deeply concerned about these escalating acts of violence and the underlying reasons behind them.
Addressing such issues and promoting peaceful conflict resolution among teenagers is of utmost importance to prevent further tragic incidents like these.
