AIU has charged Tobi Amusan with anti-doping rules violation after missing three drug tests.
The current world record holder in women’s hurdles disclosed this via her Instagram on Wednesday July 18, 2033.
She announced that she had been charged with a violation of anti-doping rules for failing to attend three drug tests within a 12-month period.
Amusan expressed her determination to address these charges and clear her name before the upcoming competition in Budapest, scheduled for next month.
The 26-year-old Nigerian athlete said, “Today, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has formally charged me with an alleged violation of the rules due to missing three tests within a 12-month period. I am fully committed to contesting this charge and having my case heard by a tribunal consisting of three arbitrators prior to the commencement of the World Championships next month.”
As outlined by the AIU, an athlete who fails to attend tests within a year is deemed to have violated the anti-doping rules.
The penalties for such violations include a two-year suspension, which may be reduced to a minimum of one year depending on the level of fault.
This recent development has raised concerns about Amusan’s potential participation in the upcoming world championships.
It is worth noting that she set the current world record in the women’s 100m hurdles, with a time of 12.12 seconds, during last year’s World Athletics Championships.
