In a heart-wrenching incident in the Etche local Government Area of Rivers State, a 4-year-old boy lost his life after being viciously attacked by his father’s dog.
On Monday July 17, 2023, AllWell Ene, a journalist hailing from Rivers State, shared the devastating news on his Facebook page.
The incident occurred in Chokota, situated in Igbo-Etche town.
According to another source that uploaded footage from the scene, a resident disclosed that the father had released two dogs to safeguard his children in the compound before leaving for work.
“This unfortunate incident took place yesterday in my neighborhood. The father received a call while en route to work, informing him that one of his dogs had fatally mauled his son.”
The anonymous resident further revealed that all five dogs were familiar with the children, as only two of them were released to protect the compound.
The father’s 4-year-old son would often assist in returning the dogs to their cages, offering no forewarning of the tragic turn of events.
Upon his return home, the father was confronted with the devastating sight of his lifeless son lying in a pool of blood.
Fortunately, neighbors swiftly intervened to prevent further harm, as the dog had also injured the father’s daughter.
Sadly, to ensure the safety of others, the neighbors had to take the difficult decision to euthanise the dog.
Reports suggest that a veterinary doctor had previously advised the family to either sell or put down the dog, as dogs often develop mental issues after reaching the age of five.
Evidently, the dog had been a part of the family for seven years.
