Former Man City star Benjamin Mendy has been acquainted of rape allegations.
The allegations against the French defender involved the rape of a 24-year-old woman at his Cheshire home in October 2022, as well as the attempted rape of a 29-year-old woman who claimed he had molested her at his residence two years prior.
Mendy vehemently denied both charges, and the jury consisting of six men and six women found him not guilty.
The court concluded that both encounters had been consensual.
The emotional moment occurred as the jury foreman read out the verdicts, declaring Mendy’s innocence, after a three-week trial at Chester Crown Court.
Over the course of the trial, Mendy had faced six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving four young women or teenagers, but he was cleared of these charges in an earlier trial.
However, the jury was unable to reach verdicts on two counts of rape and attempted rape, leading to a re-trial.
Mendy’s contract with Manchester City expired this month, concluding his association with the club.
