The family of Ivan Omorhiakogbe, a two-year-old boy, is seeking justice following his tragic death allegedly caused by a stray bullet fired by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officers during a raid in the Okapanam Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
During the incident on Thursday, Ivan’s brother was also injured and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The grieving father described the incident, expressing his sorrow that his son’s life was abruptly cut short just days before his anticipated graduation ceremony.
The family insists on receiving justice in this matter.
According to reports, the two-year-old boy was struck by a “stray bullet,” and his younger brother sustained an eye injury during an operation conducted by NDLEA officers in the state last Thursday.
“Both brothers were immediately rushed to the Emergency Ward of the Federal Medical Centre Asaba for treatment, but tragically, Ivan could not be saved,” the reports unveiled.
The injured brother with the eye injury has been transferred to an eye clinic for further medical attention.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, through his Chief Press Secretary Festus Ahon, issued a statement urging the NDLEA and the police to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the young boy and the injury sustained by his brother.
The aim is to hold the responsible parties accountable and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The police have assured the public of an ongoing investigation into the matter and called for calm.
The NDLEA also acknowledged the incident and stated that they are in contact with the family, providing necessary assistance while conducting their investigation.
They reassured the family and the public that they would fully uncover the truth and take appropriate actions to address the situation.
