Three suspected kidnappers were reportedly killed in the Oro Ago community of Kwara State by a powerful lightning strike known as Thunderstrike.
The incident occurred three days ago and is believed to be a result of the local vigilance team’s efforts to combat security challenges in the Igbomina Kwara axis.
In a viral video that circulated, the victims of the thunderstrike were identified as suspected members of an eight-man kidnapping gang that had operated in Iwo, Osun State, approximately two weeks prior.
The one-minute-13-second video displayed the decomposing bodies of three young individuals, likely in their 20s, severely burnt and unrecognizable in a bush, with flies swarming the scene.
The voice in the video, belonging to a member of the vigilance team, proclaimed their affiliation and expressed gratitude for the success in combating evildoers through divine intervention.
Another video showed the grieving herders, who claimed to be related to the victims, lamenting their loss and attributing the incident to an act of God that should not be questioned.
A reliable source from the Oro-Ago Development Union (ODU), a sociocultural organization representing the local community, confirmed the occurrence and stated that “the vigilance team had informed the organization about the incident.”
The State Police Commissioner, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, confirmed that “an investigation had been launched by the police to determine the accuracy and circumstances surrounding the incident.”
