Al-Qalam University in Katsina has obtained approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce six new undergraduate programs.
The university’s Head of Public Affairs, Malam Akilu Abubakar, announced this development in a statement issued on Saturday in Katsina.
According to him, the newly approved programmes, namely B.Sc. Information Technology, B.Sc. Statistics, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.A. Sharia, B.Sc. Public Administration, and BLIS in Library and Information Science, will be launched during the 2023/2024 academic session.
The approval was conveyed to the VC of the University in a letter signed by Dr. N. B. Saliu, the Director of Academic Planning at NUC, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the commission.
The letter specified that these programmes would be conducted on a full-time basis at the university’s main campus.
“Notably, in April 2023, the university underwent resource assessments conducted by six evaluation panels comprising 15 members appointed by the NUC,” the VC said.
He added, “These panels evaluated the university’s available resources to determine its readiness to offer the new programmes.”
