Tobi Amusan has emerged victorious in the Stockholm Diamond League Women’s 100m Hurdles, completing the race in a time of 12.52 seconds.
During a press conference for the Stockholm Diamond League, Amusan, a Nigerian athlete and one of the star contenders in the event, expressed her mindset when competing.
She emphasized that her primary focus is on her own performance, execution, and overcoming the hurdles, rather than being preoccupied with achieving specific times.
She believes that the time displayed on the clock represents her maximum effort.
In a previous competition in Lausanne, Amusan had tied her Season’s Best (SB) time of 12.47 seconds, finishing behind Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the Olympic champion, who won with a time of 12.40 seconds.
Amusan, the reigning world champion, entered the Stockholm event as the favorite to claim victory. However, she faced tough competition from Alaysha Johnson, who had been performing exceptionally well throughout the year.
Amusan set her sights on surpassing her SB time and securing a crucial win, which would serve as a confidence boost as she continues to prepare for the defense of her Diamond League and world titles.
During the Stockholm event, the World champion aimed not only to secure the vital win but also to break the stadium record of 12.38 seconds set by Brianna McNeal in 2018. To achieve this, Amusan competed against a strong field, which included Reeta Hurske, the Finnish European indoor champion, with an SB time of 12.70 seconds.
