A prominent Nigerian communication lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU), Prof Lai Oso, has tragically lost his life in a car accident.
According to a report, the incident occurred on Saturday evening along the Ijebu axis of the Ore-Sagamu expressway.
Confirming the heartbreaking news, one of his students from the Mass Communication department shared, “He was returning from Delta State University (DELSU), where he had been serving as an external examiner in the Mass Communication department.”
A colleague from the English Department also corroborated this tragic update, stating that “The university has not yet released an official statement, but I came across the news online.”
Condolences
Prof. Rotimi Williams Olatunji of the Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Studies wrote, “There can never be another Professor Lai Oso, MNAL. The pains of his demise cannot be described, nor can it be quantified. What a great mentor, great friend, great scholar, great confidant and destiny helper that he was. I’m still in a state of shock and unbelieve . My heart is very heavy now.”
Layigbade Mola Oke wrote, “Our dear father and Mentor, Prof. Lai Oso, your teaching was like snow, the softer it becomes, the deeper it sticks to our hearts. Your book COMMUNITY MEDIA was my Soul saving during my Mapoly Days.it was very useful for me when putting up my thesis. I spent quality time to read and extract details on Community Media which today is assisting me on quest for effective and pragmatic Community Policing. Yet, it has not failed me. Most of your suggested strategies are practically working for me, even as a cop. I am one of those who will sorely missed you. I can attest to the fact that you have performed miracles in my Academics via your books.
May God forgive your shortcomings and grant you Eternal Rest. Goodbye Sir.”
Salaudeen Abdullahi Olasukanmi wrote, “The end of an era in Mass Communication and Journalism. Our very own Prof. Muraino Olaiwola Oso is gone. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Steve Aborisade wrote, “One of my strongest pillar of support is gone. Adieu Prof. Lai Oso. An exceptional man, modest to a fault. Went all the way for me. Mentored me. We co-edited a book together. You were part of my training programs. My ready source for recommendations. I am certain you are with God. Rest in peace sir. Orun’re.”
Abdur-Rahman Balogun wrote, “Prof. Lai Oso, a Professor of Mass Communication, my teacher in 1987 at Mass Communication, Ogun state Polytechnic is gone. When I met you in Lagos at JIFORM lecture in Feb. 2023 and i sat side by side with you, with you as keynote Speaker and myself as Guest Speaker, , I never knew that would be my last time of seeing you. Prof Oso, formerly a lecturer at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) and Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, was serving as a Professor of communication at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.
