In a significant operation, the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has apprehended a former police officer who had been posing as an Inspector of Police in Ogudu GRA, Ojota, Lagos.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Friday, June 23, 2023, the impersonator, identified as Alobo Omokhoa, aged 48, was caught red-handed by RRS operatives while escorting a Golf Volkswagen loaded with stainless iron to a construction site in Ogudu GRA, Kosofe.
Just as he was about to escape, the vigilant operatives apprehended him.
The statement revealed that during the subsequent interrogation conducted by the Commander of Lagos Rapid Response Squad, CSP Ola Yinka Egbeyemi, Alobo failed to provide satisfactory answers to substantiate his claim of being an active member of the police force.
“Initial investigations uncovered that the suspect had been dismissed from the police force in 2020 due to desertion.
“Further inquiries revealed that since his dismissal, he had engaged in the illicit activity of escorting vehicles and trucks transporting goods to various parts of Lagos in exchange for a fee,” the statement read.
In response to this incident, Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa of the Lagos State Command, commended the RRS for their successful operation and issued a stern warning to individuals impersonating police officers in Lagos, urging them to reconsider their actions or face severe consequences in the future.
Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect will face charges in court.
