In the past two weeks, Nigerian troops operating in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe have achieved remarkable results against Boko Haram and Islamic States of West Africa (ISWAP) terrorists, as well as other criminal elements.
The Nigerian Defence Headquarters provided an update on the ongoing land and air operations in the North East region.
During this period, the dedicated forces of Operation Hadin Kai, comprising the land, air, and maritime components, have relentlessly pursued their mission to eliminate terrorists and restore peace.
Major General Musa Danmadami, the Director of Defence Media Operations, shared the latest developments during a press briefing in Abuja, on Thursday June 15, 2023.
According to him, the land troops made substantial progress, neutralizing numerous terrorists, apprehending others, and seizing various weapons.
“They also recovered a significant amount of N11.04 million in addition to confiscating several items.
“Their operations led to the elimination of 20 terrorists, the capture of seven individuals, and the arrest of 40 suspected logistics suppliers and 15 notorious members of criminal gangs,” he said.
He added that the troops apprehended four drug peddlers, three kidnappers, and three collaborators aiding the terrorists.
“In a commendable display of bravery, the troops successfully rescued 15 civilians who had been kidnapped,” he unveiled.
He revealed further that a total of 743 terrorists and their families, consisting of 42 adult males, 251 adult females, and 452 children, voluntarily surrendered to the troops at various locations within the theater of operation.
The air component played a crucial role in the operations as well. Notably, they conducted airstrikes in areas such as Tagoshe, where intelligence indicated terrorist activities under the cover of trees.
The airstrikes resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their structures.
Similarly, an air interdiction operation was carried out at Mandara mountain in Borno, targeting a prominent building known to be frequented by terrorists.
The structure was successfully struck, leading to the elimination of numerous terrorists and the destruction of the building.
Another successful air interdiction operation took place on June 6 at Loghpere, a hideout in the Mandara mountains used by Boko Haram terrorists for logistics and housing technical equipment. Bombs were deployed on the location, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their logistical infrastructure.
The relentless efforts of the Nigerian troops in the North-East have yielded substantial progress in countering terrorism and restoring peace in the region.
The successes achieved underscore the commitment and determination of the armed forces to safeguard the nation and protect its citizens.
