The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant discovery in a residential community in Lagos, uncovering a secret laboratory that was producing the dangerous illicit substance known as Methamphetamine.
The operation, conducted by anti-narcotics officers on June 6th, yielded packaged sachets of the drug and various precursor chemicals used in its production.
The clandestine laboratory was located at No. 4 Bode Oluwo Street, Mende, Maryland, Ikeja. Acting on credible intelligence and conducting surveillance, the NDLEA officers took swift action to shut down the illicit operation.
During the search, law enforcement recovered one kilogram of already produced and packaged methamphetamine, along with quantities of precursor chemicals and other items used in the production process. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the owner of the house, who managed to escape.
In addition to this major breakthrough, the NDLEA’s Lagos Command arrested two suspects named Wasiu Saliu and Afolabi Banjo on June 5th, seizing 247 kilograms of skunk in the Oyingbo area of Lagos. Another suspect named Tijani Damilola was caught at Isheri with 12.5 liters of skuchies and 98 kilograms of cannabis sativa, which belonged to a fleeing suspect and was recovered in the Akerele area of Agege.
Also, 12.5 kilograms of the same substance were confiscated from Adebowale Babatunde after his arrest in Mushin on June 8th.
In separate operations, NDLEA operatives intercepted a shipment of 3.20 kilograms of skunk hidden in native black soap at the NAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on June 7th.
The intended destination of this illicit drug was the United Kingdom, and the freight agent involved in the smuggling attempt, Olowokudejo Oladele Tonyi, was promptly arrested.
Similarly, the NDLEA foiled an attempt to export 3,000 pills of Tramadol 225mg, concealed within women’s hair attachments, to Monrovia, Liberia.
A cargo agent named Akinwale Taiwo Bolutife was apprehended during the outward clearance of passengers at the departure gate of Terminal 2 at Lagos airport.
Moving to Benue state, a routine stop and search operation at the Vandeikya checkpoint led to the arrest of a suspect named Emmanuel Onah on June 8th.
He was found to be in possession of 61,790 pills of tramadol. Another suspect named Ikenna Jonathan Udeze was nabbed at Otuo-Agor, Owan East LGA, Edo state, with 208 kilograms of cannabis hidden in his Toyota Camry car, marked ABJ 117 MR.
On June 9th, a significant seizure took place in Imo state, where Agara Ogbonna, 35, was found in possession of 235 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 23.5 liters, along with 1,500 pills of Tramadol and Swinol along the Owerri-Onitsha expressway.
In Ondo State, two suspects named Friday Augustine, 25, and Segun Akintudoye, 20, were arrested with 30 kilograms of cannabis at B-Ali Junction, Idanre. Additionally, 10.4 kilograms of the same substance were recovered from the residence of a fleeing suspect in Oke Odowo, Idanre, following a raid on several drug joints in the town.
Moving to Kebbi state, Alin Bala, 45, and Danzaki Alhaji, 52, were apprehended on June 8th at Goran Maiyaki.
