Eight suspected cable thieves have been apprehended by the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS), leading to the recovery of an armoured cable measuring over 100 meters.
This was disclosed in a statement by the RRS on Friday June 9, 2023.
According to the statement, the arrest took place in Igbo Efon, Lekki.
It was reported that on June 1, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m., RRS operatives conducting patrols in Anthony Village, Lagos, apprehended seven of the suspects.
“They were caught in the act of digging and shoveling the ground to extract armoured cable belonging to Ikeja Electric,” the statement unveiled.
The arrested individuals include Kamalu Mohammed (32), Usman Lawal (33), Ibrahim Salisu (22), Hassan Salisu (20), Zulkiful Sani (23), Umar Haruna (26), and Amadu Muazu (22). According to their statements, they were brought to the Ikeja Electric site in Anthony Village by an individual named Alhaji.
Upon searching the group, the RRS recovered two diggers, three shovels, two iron cut saws, one saw blade, and one Bosch professional roller.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the final suspect, Nasir Lawal (30), who was found in possession of the stolen cable measuring over 100 meters.
The cable is believed to have been taken from a construction site in Igbo Efon, Lekki, Lagos.
All eight suspects have been charged and will face trial in court.
