The Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba has praised the passing of the police pension bill, considering it a significant accomplishment.
He expressed his gratitude to the National Assembly for successfully passing the Police Pension Board Bill and the Nigeria Police Force College, Training School and Institution (Establishment) Bill on June 6th, 2023.
According to the IGP, the passage of these two vital bills represents a milestone achievement that will positively impact policing in the country.
“The bills aim to standardize the training capacity of the police force, improve productivity, and address the recurring pension-related hardships faced by retirees,” the IGP said.

He remarked, “The exclusion of the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme and the establishment of the NPF Pension Board are highly welcomed and will effectively address the challenges faced by police retirees.”
The Inspector-General of Police acknowledged the determination and resilience of the National Assembly in passing these crucial bills.
He also expressed gratitude to well-meaning Nigerians for their support and concern, which undoubtedly played a significant role in the bills’ passage. He believes that the President will soon assent to these bills for their full implementation.
The police chief also praised the retirees for their unwavering patience during the longstanding battle over pension issues. He assured them that all necessary efforts are being made to transform these bills into a reality.
