The Lagos State Ministry of Justice has condemned the alleged plans to exhume the body of the late Whitney Omodesola Adeniran, a student of Chrisland Schools.
This was disclosed this in statement on Saturday March 4, 2023.
According to the statement, the death of Whitney, as revealed by the autopsy conducted by Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, was a result of asphyxia and electrocution.
“Whilst the Ministry has not received any official communication requesting for (sic) exhumation, however, if and when we do receive such a request, we shall be opposed to it,” the statement read.
It added, “In any event, the circumstances for exhumation under the Coroners’ Systems Law, 2015 do not arise in this case. Additionally, it is not our intention to further traumatize the deceased’s family.
“The Ministry is working closely with the police who have given their assurance that the duplicate case file would be forwarded on Monday, 6th of March, 2023 to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to aid the speedy issuance of Legal Advice.”
Meanwhile, the State Ministry of Education also assured the parents of Whitney Adeniran, the Chrisland pupil that no effort will spared to get justice for her.
The state Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, stated this during a condolence visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs Adeniran at their residence in Lagos.
The commissioner confirmed the receipt of the post mortem report on the cause of Whitney’s death and restated the commitment of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor, that nothing will be spared at ensuring appropriate interrogation of the cause and prosecution of anyone found culpable.
Mrs Adefisayo assured the parents that the Ministry of Education shares in their grief and will be with the family in the journey for justice.
