Non-Governmental Organisation, Abbyzworld Initiative, offers tuition-free scholarships to 10 pupils in Ogun State
A non-Governmental Organisation, Abbyzworld Initiative, has offered a tuition-free scholarships to ten indigent pupils at JOGEM International School, Owode, Ogun State.
According to the Founder of the NGO, Mrs Abigael Taiwo, the scholarship was an initiative under her school support programme.
She noted that it was part of its effort to ensure young children get quality education and return to school against all odds.
Speaking on the programme, the Founder of Abbyzworld Initiative, Abigael Taiwo said the project which started two years ago currently has 20 beneficiaries.
She said, “We just concluded the second batch where we sponsored ten school children.”
“It first started as a Christmas school support to give back to society leveraging the festive season, also considering the January situation for some parents and the difficulty in paying school fees. However, as the project progressed, it evolved into a School Support Fundraiser.”
Explaining further, Abigael revealed that the pioneer fundraiser programme had donations of N144,000 which catered for the tuition and examination fees of ten pupils of Colwem International School in the Shimawa area of Ogun State.
She stated that the fees were disbursed to cater to pupils in the playgroup/reception category, two pupils in Nursery 1 and 2 categories, two pupils in Basic 1 and 2 categories and two pupils in the Basic 3 and 4 categories.
“The second fundraiser programme which was just concluded received donations summing up to ₦161,000 which was sent to the School Administrator for school fees of 10 indigent children.
“The fees covered one pupil from Nursery 1 and Basic 1, and two pupils each from Basic 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively. It keeps getting better.”
“My passion for young minds gave birth to the project. A lot of people contributed to my growth and development today and God helped me use the opportunities I got well.
“As I reflected on my teenage and early youthful years; how far I have come and how my parents mostly struggled to pay our second term fees, it triggered something in me. I want to help at least ten school children get back to school every second term.” She expressed.
She added that the choice of Colwem International School was simply based on the fact that it was the first school she taught after secondary school.
“The school owner of Colwem International School helped me save close to N100,000 towards my undergraduate studies.
“Abbyzworld sincerely hopes that well-meaning Nigerians will key into the project in the future,” she said.
Appreciating the gesture, the management of JOGEM commended the initiative.
“The pupils, staff, parents and management of JOGEM schools expresses their profound gratitude to you, Mrs Abigae Taiwo, your foundation AbbyzWorld Initiative and the sponsors, for the help and support rendered to our indigent pupils,” the school said in an appreciation letter signed by the school Administrator, Mrs Susanah A Sunday-Apata.
She added, “The help came just in time for the pupils and especially the parents, some of who were already contemplating moving their children to public school for lack of funds hence, the help is not only for the pupils but also for the school; for this, we say thank you.
“We pray that God will expand His work in your hands, raise help for your seeds, bless you on all sides and continually reward your labour of love.”
