A consulting firm, MYDAS ETC in the United Kingdom has announced opportunities for Nigerian teachers who wish to migrate to the UK.
This was disclosed by the Executive Director of the firm, Dr Wale Oni
While reacting to a post with a claim that “teaching is the most stressful job in the UK”, the UK-trained education consultant explained that teaching is more than a job.
“Passion and altruism sustain the UK teacher. Nothing else. The pay is comparable to the nursing, the hours are long but not longer as nurses’, and teachers can sit unlike hospital nurses without seats and clocking over 10,000 steps in 12 long hours of shift,” he explained.
He, however, stated that there are ways to go about the complexities of the UK classroom “when you have the right support network and experienced lead”.
“You have all these to deal with: the variegated UK education and school policies, the challenging classroom behaviour, the teacher workload and long hour of work, Ofsted bureaucracy, HOS administrative acumen and demands, managing the parents, their utopia and expectations of the teacher,” he stated.
He added, “And if you are new, your qualifications and experience will be tested in and outside the classroom like nowhere on earth. Your communication skills must be excellent.
“The foreign teacher is stacked against some odds, no doubt, and it’s a swim or drown situation. But still, teaching in the UK can be fun. It is doable.”
Dr Oni maintained that those who have got the skill set beside being a subject expert can adapt and relearn.
He urged interested teachers to visit the firm website to apply for suitable teaching positions in the UK.
“You will undertake four CPD certificate courses as part of the process including membership registration with some foremost associations and bodies for work,” he concluded.
