The Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Department of the Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA has distributed foodstuffs, live chickens and cash to the underprivileged within the LCDA.
The initiative, according to a report, was part of the annual empowerment organized the department.
The Chairperson and wife of the Chairman of the council, Mrs. Muhibat Omokehinde Ajala, spearheaded the programme. She was assisted by the wife of the Vice-Chairman, Mrs. Seyi Jakande.
While addressing the gathering, Hon. Ajala who was a special guest stated that the programme was aimed at supporting the people of the LCDA.
He said the family support was to give stipends to the underprivileged among the people.
According to the council boss, the trade assistance was to contribute to the business of the petty traders while the Widow relief was aimed at supporting the widows and the widowers in the community.
“It is very important to state that this programme is meant for the have-nots in our community. Those who have little to support their families are those we expected here,” he said.
“The initiative as we all know is under the office of the Chairperson of every local government and local council development area. I am only here as a guest,” he stated.
In his message to the people of the LCDA Hon. Ajala called on those who God has blessed to inculcate the habit of giving to the downtrodden to support the government.
He equally encouraged them to shun any form of criminality and violence and report such to the appropriate authorities.
“Those who are here for family support, widows and widowers will take home rice and live chickens while those whose names are under Trade Support will get their credits alerts through electronic transfer,” he said.
The Chairperson, Mrs. Omokehinde Ajala, thanked her husband for his support. She thanked everyone at the event and prayed to God to be with them.
She sang songs of praise to God while the whole gathering joined the chorus with sounds and dance.
The wife of the Vice-Chairman, Mrs. Jakande, also thanked the chairman and his wife, and the people of the LCDA.
She said she was happy and full of joy to be part of the programme this year and lauded the initiative.
She also sang and danced with the singer’s group and the people at the high table.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the items to some beneficiaries.
At the event was the Vice-Chairman of the council, Hon. Seyi Jakande, leader of the legislative arm of government, Hon. Rilwan Ola Ajenifuja, Secretary to the LCDA, Hon. Mujeeb Ayinde Daramola, his counterpart in Mushin Local Government, Mrs. Gbadamosi Olubunmi.
In attendance was also the party Chairman, Hon. Ismail Babatunde Kazeem, Woman Leader Mrs. Bukola Moore; HRA Chairman, Hon. Rasheed Bankole, party leaders, and members across the wards.
Others were councilors across the wards, supervisors, and various heads departments.
