The Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye, LCDA Hon Rasaq Ajala, has urged members of the National Association of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Tertiary Students (NAOTS) to actively involve in politics.
The chairman made the appeal on Tuesday December 20,2022, at the summit organised by the association.
The event, which was held at the main hall of the LCDA, discussed the theme: “Personal Development and Leadership: a Link for the Youth Involvement in Politics and Governance”.
The summit attracts people from all strata of life— political leaders, civil servants, government appointees from the state and local government; students leaders from different tertiary institutions, students and youth across the state.
The panelists delved into the need for the youth to participate actively in politics.
In his contribution, HRA told the gathering, “Power is not served à la carte”, hence the need for the youth to take their destinies into their hands by getting involved in politics.
“It is very important that the youth get involved in politics to prepare them for leadership positions.
“They have the higher portion in terms of demography of the population of the country. They, therefore, have a greater role to play in determining who governs the country,” he said.
In his words, the president of the union, Comrade Adekunle Oluwatosin maintained that the youth have a negative perspective about politics.
“The believe erroneously that it is a dirty game they should stay away from,” Oluwatosin said.
“This summit is to sensitize and reawaken their consciousness that they need to be part of the political architecture of their various local government, state, and the country at large,” he added.
The panelists made a lot of contributions to the theme and everyone agreed that there was a need for the youth to be actively involved in politics.
Among the panelists were the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos on Sustainable Development Goals, Hon. Lekan Fatodu, Hon. Toyin Aremu, Senior Special Assistant on Transportation, Hon. Owolabi Falana, Permanent Board member SUBEB, Comrade Olusesi Tolulope Samson, Chairman, NANS Lagos, Hon. Antonia Akinlagun, and Hon. Adigun Ibrahim SSA on ICT to Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala Chairman, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA.
At the event were the leader of the legislative arm of government in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA Hon. Rilwan Ola Ajenifuja, Supervisors, HODs, and some Councilors across the LCDA.
Hon. Adeyemi Alli, member of the House of Representatives representing Mushin Constituency 1, Hon. Nureni Ayinde Akinsanya members of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mushin Constituency 1 and Hon. Yinka Esho, the candidate for the All Progressive Congress for Mushin Constituency 2 Lagos State House of Assembly sent their representatives.
Other personalities that sent their representatives were the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos on Special Duties, Hon. Bolaji Ogunlende, and Hon. Anthony Adeboye SSA on sports.
