Standard Mandate Int’l trains primary school prefects in effective leadership

Standard Mandate International (SMI), a leading consulting firm, has conducted leadership training for primary school prefects.

The event took place at J.A Ade Ajayi Hall, University of Lagos, Akoka, on Saturday May 11, 2024.

Themed “Leadership for Effective Results,” the training was moderated by Craig Esohwode, a renowned English expert popularly known as Doctor of English.Sixteen schools from across Lagos State participated in this significant event.

In his opening address, Dr. Nelson Ayodele (DNA), the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Mandate International and a seasoned educationist, warmly welcomed the attending pupils.

He elucidated the concept of leadership, emphasising foundational insights on impactful leadership.

Dr Ayodele highlighted key factors contributing to charismatic leadership, stressing the importance of confidence and optimism in effective leadership.

“Your capacity to listen attentively while fulfilling your leadership role reflects your proactive stance in consistently gathering information, attentively considering the perspectives of your followers, and staying aware of environmental dynamics,” remarked DNA.

DNA highlighted essential qualities for effective leadership, including efficient time management, keen attention to detail, and adaptability.

He emphasised that a leader should not hesitate to reset and restart when necessary, demonstrating resilience and a willingness to adapt and improve.

During her presentation, Mrs Folashade Oladimeji, an associate consultant, discussed the vital role of character in effective leadership.

“Charisma may secure a leadership position, but it is good character that sustains it,” emphasised Oladimeji.

She emphasised the importance of character as a foundational element of leadership success, noting that many accomplished leaders have prioritised character development.

Oladimeji urged the pupils to embrace the five E’s to cultivate effective leadership: setting a positive example, pursuing continuous education, shaping their environment positively, gaining relevant experience, and consistently evaluating their progress.

Craig Esohwode advised the young leaders to prioritise problem-solving over their official positions.

“Focus your mind on addressing challenges that arise in your role,” Esohwode emphasised.He introduced an acronym ‘READ’ as a framework for effective leadership: “Recognise the problem, evaluate it thoroughly, analyze the root cause, and deploy a solution,” he explained to the audience.

The session was highly interactive, with participants receiving gifts as a token of appreciation for their active engagement and contribution.
