In an update from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the highly anticipated results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) have been officially released, unveiling a detailed breakdown of performance across the nation’s aspiring university students.
Out of a total of 1.8 million UTME results unveiled, a stark reality emerges as less than 500,000 candidates managed to achieve a score of 200 and above, constituting just approximately 22% of the examinees, The Naija News.org learnt.
The statistical breakdown paints a telling picture of the nationwide academic landscape:
Results Withheld: A notable 64,624 results have been withheld by the examination board, pending further investigation or clarification.
300 and Above Scorers: A commendably low 8,401 candidates achieved an impressive score of 300 and above, showcasing exceptional academic prowess.
250 and Above Scorers: A more substantial 77,070 candidates attained a score of 250 and above, demonstrating a strong performance threshold.
200 and Above Scorers: Significantly, 439,974 candidates crossed the 200 mark, reflecting a level of proficiency deemed acceptable for higher education.
Below 200 Scorers: However, the majority of examinees, a staggering 1,402,490 individuals, fell below the 200 benchmark, highlighting a widespread challenge in academic preparedness and performance.
This year’s results underscore the ongoing conversation around the quality of education and the need for targeted interventions to elevate the academic standard and ensure broader access to tertiary education across the country.
