RRS arrest traffic robbers in Ikeja

In a targeted crackdown on street crime, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended two suspects engaging in traffic robberies outside Ikeja City Mall.

The individuals, identified as Azeez Folarin (23) and Azeez Rilwan (27), were taken into custody around 7am following reports of their illicit activities.

Authorities disclosed that the duo had been perpetrating a string of robberies, particularly in the Ketu and Ojota areas, preying on motorists. Notably, they had been working independently until recently leveraging Rilwan’s medical ailment—a chronic case of piles—as a deceptive tactic to disarm unsuspecting victims.

The RRS intervention came swiftly after Folarin brazenly snatched a mobile phone from a compassionate motorist who was offering alms to Rilwan, mistaking the situation for a genuine act of charity. This incident underscored the criminals’ calculated exploitation of sympathy to facilitate their crimes.

Following preliminary investigations, Rilwan was granted temporary release on account of his precarious health condition. Conversely, Folarin was promptly arraigned for his involvement in the robbery spree.

The police, led by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, emphasized the seriousness with which they are addressing such incidents, highlighting the public safety concerns posed by these tactics.

This apprehension is evidence of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb crime and uphold public safety across Lagos State.
