Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives have apprehended Matthew Odah, a 27-year-old despatch rider, alias “Mr Lemon,” for the illicit sale of three iPhones worth N1.7 million entrusted to him for delivery.
The incident unfolded on August 23, 2023, when Odah was assigned to transport one iPhone 14 ProMax (128 GB) and two iPhone 11s (128 and 68 GB) to a customer in Lekki, Lagos. Instead of delivering the devices, Odah absconded, disappearing without a trace and promptly shutting off his phone, initiating an eight-month chase.
After an exhaustive and discreet investigation, RRS operatives tracked down Odah’s whereabouts to the Lemon Bus Stop at Alpha Beach, Lagos. The arrest occurred amidst a takedown operation, finally putting an end to Odah’s evasion.
During interrogation, Odah admitted to selling the three iPhones in Obalende for a mere fraction of their value, fetching a meager N300,000. Authorities swiftly acted, apprehending two individuals believed to have purchased the stolen devices, leading to the recovery of one iPhone.
The suspects, including Odah and the buyers, await arraignment pending the conclusion of investigations. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed these developments, emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement to safeguarding commercial transactions and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
