The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended a network of alleged internet fraudsters, with four brothers identified as key players in the illicit activities.
The arrested siblings have been identified as Egbo Chukwuebuka, Egbo Favour Chibuike, Egbo Ifeanyi Francis, and Egbo Victor. Alongside them, thirty other individuals, including Great Eze, Ani Callistus, Ekpe Chigbo, and several others, were also taken into custody during the operation.
The coordinated sting operation, executed on Friday, February 9, 2024, was intelligence-driven and spanned various locations within Enugu state. The suspects, all males, were apprehended as part of ongoing efforts by the EFCC to curb the rising tide of cybercrime in the region.
Among the items confiscated during the operation were a significant number of mobile phones and a fleet of exotic cars believed to be procured through fraudulent means.
The EFCC has stated that the suspects will be thoroughly investigated, and upon conclusion of the inquiry, they will be charged to court to face legal consequences for their alleged involvement in internet fraud.
This latest operation signifies a continued commitment by the EFCC to combat cybercrime and uphold the rule of law, sending a clear message that perpetrators will be brought to justice.
