RRS quells street carnival chaos, 3 suspects arrested

The officials of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested three suspects in the Shasha, Akowonjo area of Lagos, for orchestrating a street carnival that brazenly flouted existing laws governing the use of public speakers in Lagos State.

This was disclosed in an official statement released by SP BENJAMIN HUNDEYIN, anipr, mipra, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command in Ikeja, on Saturday January 6, 2023.

According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Julius Osimirin (43), Isiaka Kabiru (16), and Ajewole Ajugba (42), were taken into custody at approximately 12:23 p.m. on Abatti Street, Shasha, where they were in the midst of setting up their carnival stage.

This crackdown comes in response to the explicit directives issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, to the Commander of the RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, instructing them to take immediate action against any individuals attempting to violate the pertinent laws.

Prior to the arrests, CP Fayoade had engaged in a meeting with the organizers of the carnival, advising them on the importance of securing a proper venue for their event and refraining from disrupting public peace by shutting down streets.

The suspects, now in police custody, are slated to face legal consequences as investigations unfold, with their arraignment expected upon the conclusion of the inquiry.

The incident serves as a stern reminder of the authorities’ commitment to maintaining law and order in the vibrant city of Lagos.
