Breaking News: Lagos divides education ministry into 2 separate entities

In a significant development, the Lagos State government has initiated a major restructuring of its ministries and offices, aiming to enhance performance and improve service delivery across the state.

The changes were outlined in a memo addressed to various Ministries, departments, and agencies of the Lagos State government, as announced by the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

One of the key changes is the division of the Ministry of Education into two separate entities.

The former Ministry of Education will now be known as the Ministry of Basic Education, while the office of the Special Adviser on Education has been elevated and renamed the Ministry of Tertiary Education.

To address specific needs in different areas, the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs has also undergone a name change and is now known as the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development.

Additionally, the Office of Civic Engagement has been split into two distinct entities: the Office of Civic Engagement and the Political and Legislative Bureau.

This move aims to streamline and enhance the efficiency of both offices’ functions.

Notably, the Central Internal Audit Department has also undergone an upgrade and is now recognized as the Office of Internal Audit, indicating a focus on strengthening internal oversight and accountability.

The memo titled “Change of Nomenclature of Government Offices, Re-introduction of Political and Legislative Bureau, and Office of Rural Development” highlights the government’s commitment to restructure its Ministries, Agencies, and Departments for the benefit of the public.

By undertaking these changes, the Lagos State government aims to optimise its operations, provide effective governance, and cater to the evolving needs of its citizens.
